Eliza spent two decades following the impact of technology on society, first as a tech reporter in Washington, D.C., and then as a business management consultant helping organizations assess risk and comply with privacy regulations. She leveraged the knowledge and skills she gained from those experiences to create Tech With Intention.

Eliza’s Story

My high school guidance counsellor told me that I had a penchant for righting injustices whenever I encountered them. That memory stands out, because even 20-something years later, this moral conviction still fuels so many decisions I make, including my latest venture, creating a digital wellbeing company.

With a growing sense of alarm over the past 15 years, I’ve watched digital devices — first and foremost the smartphone — consume our attention, taking us away from our loved ones, ourselves and the world around us. With our iPhones in our hand or on the table, we are not present at lunch with our friend or listening to the teacher in class, we are, as esteemed academic Sherry Turkle says, “forever elsewhere.”

Our always-on digital world makes it hard to focus, sleep, feel calm or pay attention to the things that matter most to us. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can create a healthy relationship with our technology — one that prioritises balance and establishes sensible boundaries. Like all relationships, this takes work, and that’s the work we focus on at Tech With Intention.

I’m not anti-technology. I’m pro-wellbeing. If this resonates and you want to feel in control of your tech habits, reach out to discuss how we can help.
